Camps are designed for youth ages 14 to 17 seeking to gain entry to the workforce. This opportunity promotes basic soft skills and shop skills combined with a volunteer opportunity to benefit the community.
This camp is centered around a woodworking project and learning to grow hydroponics. The camp, structured like a workforce experience, will allow youth to gain the soft skills needed to enter the workforce.
Skills learned will include: Woodworking: Miter box saw, hand saw, drill, pocket screws, sanding, painting Soft skills: Communication, teamwork, leadership, work ethic, decision making, & critical thinking Growing: Seeding, propagation, nutrients, & harvesting your lettuce grow Entrepreneurial: The economy of local food, how to sell locally, tax & license responsibilities Resume: What is a resume, create a working resume, ways to build it up Goalsetting: As part of the review and continued learning, students will set goals to work on over the following months and will be engaged in completing those goals in an online group.
Students will be expected to follow "workplace rules" and show up on time. Upon completion, they will have a working resume to begin their job search process and spend time reviewing typical application processes.

Black Hawk county youth ages 14 to 17 looking to gain confidence in approaching an employer. Low-income youth may apply for a scholarship to waive the fee.
A pathway to other volunteer opportunities will be available upon completion of the camp including tending a local Life Garden hosted at a business or organization.

Summer camps run four days, Monday to Thursday, 9am -12pm. Arrive at 8:30 the first day for check-in. Transportation options will be available during summer hours.
After school camps will run 6 days, 4pm to 6pm M-W for two weeks. Inquire for transportation help.
